British tourism is set for a bumper year in 2009

A survey by coach company Shearings found that the number of Britons choosing to holiday at home this year has gone up by 50% compared with last year. What’s more, the number of overseas visitors to the UK is rocketing, as Europeans and Americans take advantage of the weak pound.

Visit Britain research on costs for visitors to the UK from the US show it was 26% cheaper to visit in November last year than in November 2007, and 15% cheaper for visitors from the eurozone

 “Britain has never been more affordable and, with fuel prices coming down, it’s now cheaper to get here as well.”

For the first time in years Britain is now seen as a budget destination for overseas travellers.
