A ‘Fawlty Towers’ break

Regular readers know that I have been delivering ‘how to market in the recession’ workshops to tourism businesses throughout the country, encouraging them to add value to their offer rather than just slashing prices, and this Fawlty Tower offering from short break operator Superbreak is a really good example of this. Actors from Laughlines provide the comedy for guests over dinner, and the package also includes overnight accommodation in one of the 5 featured hotels.

Fawlty Towers was one of my favourite comedies and starred the wonderful ex-Monty Python, John Cleese.  It is also a reminder of how awful many seaside hotels in Britain were. For those who don’t know the series the hotel owner, Basil Fawlty, was completely mad, really disliked his customers and spent lots of time abusing them! His staff were all equally mad and incompetent. Thankfully those days are now in the past and Britain boasts a great tourism product – most of the time.
